"Mystery trip" is now a category with several established players, and they are not selling the same thing. Here's a plain comparison of how the main models work, what they cost you in flexibility, and where we fit — including the cases where you should pick someone else.
A note on fairness: pricing and policies in this space change often, and we're a competitor. Treat this as a guide to the models, and confirm current details on each company's own site before you buy.
The four models, side by side
Model 1 — Bundled surprise package
Examples of the type: Pack Up + Go, Journee, and most of the "we book everything, you show up" services.
How it works: You fill out a survey, pay one price, and the company books your transport and accommodation. You get an envelope or an email at a set time before departure.
Best for: Travelers who want zero logistics and are happy to hand over control entirely.
Trade-offs: You can't apply points or airline status, you're bound by their cancellation terms rather than the airline's or hotel's, and you can't see what each component actually cost.
Model 2 — Surprise destination only
How it works: You get a destination and travel dates, and the rest is yours to figure out.
Best for: Confident, improvisational travelers who wanted the nudge, not the plan.
Trade-offs: You land somewhere unfamiliar with no itinerary. That's fine in Lisbon and much harder in a city where you don't speak the language and haven't researched anything.
Model 3 — AI destination pickers
How it works: A prompt or quiz generates a destination and a rough plan instantly, usually free or a few dollars.
Best for: Brainstorming.
Trade-offs: Nothing is verified. We tested this at length and found closed restaurants, wrong opening hours and attractions recommended on the days they shut. It's a starting point, not an itinerary.
Model 4 — Mystery planning, you book
This is what Seven Sunsets is building.
How it works: You pay a planning fee. We build the entire trip — a specific destination, a hotel we'd actually stay in, and a day-by-day plan with real excursions and restaurants — and reveal it two to four weeks before you travel, with booking links. You book flights and hotels yourself.
Best for: Travelers who want the surprise and the plan, but refuse to give up their points, their card protections or their ability to cancel a hotel for free.
Trade-offs: You do have to spend an hour booking. And because you book after the reveal, prices can move between when we build and when you buy — which is exactly why we reveal weeks out rather than at the airport.

Genuinely: if the appeal for you is not touching a single booking site, buy the bundled package. That's the product. We are not trying to be a cheaper version of it — we're the option for people who want the surprise without surrendering control of the money.
